Picture 1

I saw over on JuicyBomb where Gogo had ran her avatar through the Facial Beauty Analysis at Anaface.com

So being one that always likes to pick apart my avatar I decided to follow the crowd ;) and give it a go.

So I logged in and took a snap and uploaded it, placed the markers, (fairly easy enough, though I wonder if being bald would have made it easier) Pushed the button and out pops a score of 8.81 out of 10? Really? It thinks my ears are too long for my nose? and my mouth is too wide for my nose? but still gives me an 8.81 [just for reference it gave my rl picture a 7.7, both Lyndz and I have ears that are too long for our nose, hehehe.]

Does it really matter? No, not really. I like the way I look minus some grumbling about my nose depending on the skin of the moment. That and well obsessing over my mouth, making sure my upper lip isn’t to thin, after it was pointed out, in real life, that I have a preference for people with thin upper lips so I felt a need to make sure Lyndz’s lips were more balanced (hahahah).

It’s funny to see what the “experts” say, but is it gonna make me change or worry about anything? Nope, no ear shorting or mouth narrowing/nose widening in my future.

Now I can go back to worrying more important things, like that I am too tall around my friends but too short when I head out on the grid.

Before-the-dawn_1

A little darker (ok a lot darker) image and I mean that in the luminance not the subject matter.

Just exploring a lot of different techniques, I think on this one I really got the lights where I wanted them and shot them in different places so I could blend the images together. I am also still playing with the lens blur but not as much blur, plus I will go in and work the blur in or out in places.

Plus I had a lot of new outfits to play around with so I have been in a picture taking mood. :)

Rooftop-Escape

Ok I’ll admit that I saw the GI Joe movie this weekend and for a movie based off of an 80’s cartoon, based off of a toy line it was a pretty good flick. I’ll also admit that I was rather taken by Sienna Miller as Baroness so when I got home I just had to squeeze into my catsuit and head off and get into some trouble ;)

I headed over to my latest photo stalking grounds of SICK (SICK3 this time) and found a spot that gave me the look I wanted, well it was my second choice I couldn’t figure out how to make my first choice work since all the places to stand were phantom :( but I’ll keep that spot in mind for something else.

Anywho, as I started setting up the shot I was already thinking about post work on it, and decided to do something I hadn’t tried before (well I had played with it but was still figuring it out). I decided that I was going to play with the depth of field, using the Lens blur in Photoshop, so I made sure to save a depth shot of each setup to my hard drive along with the regular shots.

Here’s the shot as I took it:

and here is the depth map for that shot:baroness_start_depthmap

I wasn’t sure the look was that noticeably different, but then I put them side by side and you can really see the effect.

There is some potential with this technique and I’m going to explore it a bit more. I also want to figure out the best was to let objects in the foreground go out of focus too for a much more realistic depth of field effect.

[If people are interested in the technique I could go into some depth about my process in another post]

Snapshot_001It’s been awhile since I have written anything here so I though I would ease back into it with a meme that has been running around. I saw it over on Lanna’s blog and GoSpeed’s blog but it originates with Zoe Connolly.

So the question is Lyndzay Meili… “Who influenced your avatar?”

Hmmm That is a good question. I mean I have been using poser for many years now and am pretty familiar with pushing sliders around to make meshes look like other things, so I think I could have made her look like anyone I wanted to withe enough work or gone to a shape maker if I so chose. I guess the question on some level goes deeper than the mesh that Second Life gives use to play with. It asks what characteristic do we see in ourselves that we want to bring into our virtual life and what characteristics that we feel are lacking in our real life, or what ones in other people both real and fictional, do we want to give to our avatar.

As I explored the grid I found that I enjoyed dancing, no not the grinding on a pole for lindens though that can be fun too, I mean the just break into dance for dance’s sake It was fun and I liked watching the movements. So I knew that she would have a dancer build, tall with long legs and not voluptuous, but not androgynous. So as I started adjusting things I found that I was drawn to the look of a few famous people and some close friends and watched Lyndzay take shape and inhabit the grid and my mind.

tea-leoniThe major influences on my appearance was Tea Leoni. I remember the first time I saw her in that Fox show “Flying Blind” and she was all Bohemian flaky gorgeous and full of adventure then later on “The Naked Truth” as Norah Wilde she showed a bit more style. The thing I liked most about her was that she looked comfortable and confidant in pearls and a fancy dress but equally comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt. Yes she had style and fabulously good looks but on top of it all she was funny and sarcastic (qualities that I have been know from time to time possess, ok sarcasm I have with me almost 24-7). While in some of her roles Tea does have red hair, I’ll admit that my red hair( when I wear it) is an homage to one of my best friends in RL who’s red hair I have always liked. :)

jill-hennessyAnother person who influenced the look of my avatar was Jill Hennessy, more of the Law & Order years than the Crossing Jordan years (she looked a little to rough for me in that role, just rolled out of bed or something) It was another case of looking very put together as A.D.A. Claire Kincaid but in this case it was always professionalism and a sense of strength able to hold her own in the world. Though I always wish she did more with her hair.

Well those are two of the people who influenced my avatar. As I implied there were also some close RL friends who played a part in the look and personality of Lyndz but I think I’ll keep those to myself ;)

me-liz-at-mollys

Well Liz and I finished the Winter 2008 CSR last night. We had started back the first day of the event, but things like sleep and all the other hunts got in the way. Though after we finished the first time and got all our swag we decided to go and do it again so we could spread the love to a few of our friends. :)

As you can see our favorite giftie was the Bunny avatar from **DP** Yum Yum. It is just so cute :) I love that you can dress it up pretty easily especially if your stuff has resize scripts in it. You can see us here taking a break from our big lightsaber duel with the other citizens on Nevi. let me tell you something just because we’re small doesn’t mean we can’t hold our own. ;)

I like to play with my look but I sometimes don’t feel comfortable in a new “skin” but I really like the bunny I think it will make appearances throughout the grid not just on silly attacks :) But I’m ready for those too. I remember seeing Zoe’s Girls with Guns group, so I was thinking alliteratively and came up with Bunnys with Bazookas :D
