Yup still playing around with shadows so that means I’m still taking pictures so… Yay!

I had been flipping channels and stopped on the tail end of “Music & Lyrics” that Drew Barrymore, Hugh Grant movie and I was looking at the outfit that Cora Corman wore when she sang with Hugh and I thought Ooo I like that I think I could make that in SL ( and most of it from what I already had in inventory… always a plus ) Well after some digging and hunting I made some modifications to suit me and what I could find, though I really would like to find a pair of socks like that in SL (hint hint).

On the right is the original outfit for comparison.(I’ll spare you the video clip hahaha)

Funny how just one little thing can kick you back into motion after a year of stagnation and sitting around.

Last week I saw Vaki Zenovka’s blog post about being able to get shadows on her Mac with an ATI video card… and I well I was skeptical but I had to try it out so I did and…

I CAN HAS SHADOWZ!!!

…ok they aren’t the great soft flowing shadows that others have… but still there are shadows. YAY!

I spent a day or two just playing with the settings trying to figure out what windlight settings work best with them. There are still alpha issues but I found by playing with the Density and Distance multiplier settings in the Atmosphere tab I could minimize most of the issues… the down side being that I lost some of my hair volume… I know that there are lots of windlight settings out there that people have created for shadow photos so now I just have to find them and give them a try.

So what does all this mean… well it means that I have just made my convoluted photo taking process even more convoluted but it also means that I want to start taking photos again, which also means I’ll also start making poses again, well I think that should be I’ll start finishing poses… I have about oodles of them sitting in folders in various states. Haha!

Now off to see if I can figure out how to control the DoF settings

Let me start this by saying that there are few things that get me worked up, I get moody and pissy but actually fuming is a rare thing. I am from a family that stews in silence, but the events of last night still have me worked up.

My partner Liz is a big Olympics fan and is planning an Olympics event in her sim of Thistle, so to that end we were out looking for things Olympic, which took us to a sim that features large quantites of “emblems of countries” among other things. Upon tping into the sim you are greeted by the announcement:

ok this is new, better than the “!Quit” greetings you can still find without looking to hard.

After things rez I start walking around looking at all the countries represented, pausing to send comments back to Liz. She’s a cam’er but I like to walk around and look when I am in a sim, especially if I’m just tagging along.

After a few minutes there, I got an IM from the owner making nice shop talk, [I have to say I do like a "Hi" from the shop owner if they are around, though I am bad about doing it in my own shop] told them they had nice products and if I had any questions I would let them know. I continued to wander around, finding an amusing Gay Pirate flag I stopped to IM Liz when I got an IM from the store owner

and while I was still in this total WTF! mode I was banned and ejected from the sim.

Of course the next IM I get is Liz wanting to know where I went?
“I got banned and ejected!” (well my exact words were more colorful)
“What? Why? By who?”
I tried to respond, I was still in shock.

A few minutes later, as I tried to calm down, I received an apologetic IM from the person “Saying that they did not know that I was accompanying Liz” (who had purchased 5 of their products while this incident was occuring) and that “Copybotting had made them crazy” .

Now what set this off, you are asking. I don’t know. Yes I am an emerald user[* NOTE at the time I was on 1.23.5.950 because I could not get voice to work on .110], and maybe it is a case of people not wanting that viewer in their sim, [which I am fine with, your sim your rules] but Liz is also an emerald user[ on 1.23.5.110] . I wasn’t clicking on anything, I was just walking around. Maybe that was it I was not actively shopping clicking on anything and everything.

Yes, store owners have every right to protect their products, but there has to be more effective ways. Stopping visitors and having them prove they are not doing something is not the answer. What in my actions were wrong? How do we “act natural”?

Soul Evolution at Burning Life

Haven’t really been up to much lately, I’ve been in a little (ok long) creative slump, BUT I did want to let you know of one thing that I have worked on.

My partner Liz Gealach has a build up at Burning life called Soul Evolution and I did the animations for it. Liz had asked for something joyful and leapy without the bounds of gravity. So I made up five little animations for her.

Please stop buy Soul Evolutions and check out the build (Up til November 1) it really is a lot of fun and a nice place to sit and think.

This creation or area to reflect is a 3D interpretation of reincarnation and the evolution of my soul.

I believe that each person must use their time on earth to learn or enlighten their soul. Once we move on we have a brief time to reflect and gain awareness of what we learned so we can then in turn use that knowledge in our next lifetime. “Soul Evolution” is a reflection of that time we have between lives … a time we can see the knowledge we have gained and share it with other souls.

A Bestest Friend’s Celebration of Love

This past week in one of my bestest friends in SL had a wedding, well a Celebration of Love. It was a great event with friends, music, dancing and tears of joy. I think it was a beautiful event. I’ll post some pictures later on, I still need to get the photos to the happy couple, so it would be wrong to give you all a look before they got to see them

I had been to a few weddings in world, ones of people I knew and then ones of friends of friends.The one thing that made this one different for me personally is that my friend asked me to take some pictures, to which I said yes of course. I would have anyway, but now I had a mission and a shot list. I have photographed a few wedding in real life, well just enough to know that I don’t really want to do them for a living. Even with that experience, I thought “oh this would be a fun way to give back to them” and happily clicked away during the ceremony and the following reception.

As I was going through the photos, I started thinking about how photographing virtual weddings are in ways similar and also very different. So here’s a little list I made up…

At a real life wedding, you never have to worry if the couple and guests are fully rezzed in each shot

At a virtual wedding if you don’t like where the sun is in a shot you can move it, unless the couple have decided on a windlight setting

You can get amazing angles without ever leaving your seat or blocking any other persons view at a virtual wedding.

At either wedding, someone will dance into that amazing candid you were framing up.

The only crashes you have to worry about in a real life wedding is from drunk party guests.

The a fore mentioned drunk guest won’t be bumping your camera in a SL wedding.

Pose balls…might make RL wedding photography easier.

Forgetting to “/1 hide” the unused pose balls during the first dance

Two words that make RL wedding photography better…Motor drives!

and the thing that is absolutely the same in rl and virtual weddings… If you ask me to do shoot your wedding and I say yes… then you are someone special to me
